Dr. Kerstin Bäcker joined Lausen Rechtsanwälte in 2001 and has been a partner in charge of the Cologne office since 2004.

Pioneering topics and innovative products are Dr. Kerstin Bäcker’s playground. For years, she has been dealing with the adaptation of the copyright framework to new technical developments in the context of individual and collective licensing and related business cases: from the responsibility of platforms and social media for user content (YouTube, Cyberlocker, etc.) to artificial intelligence, the metaverse, and NFTs.

Her clients also include traditional education companies, publishing houses, cultural institutions as well as music, audio, and film production companies.

She gained experience abroad at international law firms in Paris, Cape Town, Melbourne, and Barcelona.

Dr. Kerstin Bäcker studied at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and as a participant in the integrated, German-French programme at the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II, France), specializing in European and international law. She obtained the Licence en Droit. Her PhD at the Technical University of Dresden was about the position of neighboring rights holders in the digital age, including the legal situation in France, the USA, and the United Kingdom. Dr. Kerstin Bäcker is Certified Specialist for Copyright and Media Law.

In addition to her work as a lawyer, Dr. Kerstin Bäcker is a speaker at the Akademie der Deutschen Medien and a guest speaker at various institutions, including Ansbach University of Applied Sciences. She is also involved as a moderator, for example in the initiative “The Future of Publishing”. Among other things, she is an author for the Handbuch für Musikwirtschaft and the Handbuch Kulturmanagement and publishes in national and international journals.
